Ithaca Women’s Soccer Finishes in a 1-1 Draw on Sunday

ITHACA, N.Y. - The Ithaca College women's soccer team drew a 1-1 tie in a rainy battle against the Lycoming Warriors on mid-Sunday morning. This non-conference game now leaves the Bombers record at 3-0-1 as they scored a first half goal and peppered the net for a second goal in the final 45-minutes of action, but the opposing keeper came up big making several stops.

While Ithaca was able to dominate in total shots, 21 to Lycoming's four, they were only able to find the back of the net once. The lone Bombers goal scored by Ella Shorkey was picture perfect. Earning a corner kick in the 32nd minute, it was a true Olympico goal from Shorkey off the set corner play. This unfortunately was the only corner kick Ithaca would capitalize on out of their 10 total that were earned throughout the game.

The remainder off the first half was a back-and-forth contest between the Bombers and Warriors. It wasn't until the second half that Lycoming would earn a penalty shot off a foul from Margo Kasenchar that would result in a Warriors goal. The penalty goal was scored by Lycoming's Mikayla Long in the 53rd minute of the game. Despite an abundant amount of time left in the half, both teams were unable to tally on another goal resulting in a 1-1 tie.

Kaitlyn Weis ripped a shot attempt in the 74th minute that nearly found the back of the net, but it was pawed away by Lycoming's Abbey Gerasimoff.

The Bombers next game will take place at SUNY Cortland on September 13th to face the No. 21 ranked Red Dragons. Kickoff is slated for 6 p.m.
