ITHACA, N.Y. - The Ithaca College men's soccer team defeated Wilkes University in a 5-0 shutout at home on Monday. It was the second-straight contest that sophomore goalkeeper
Johannes Berghahn kept a clean sheet for the Bombers as he made a pair of saves to deny the Colonels.
The Bombers dominated the first half, scoring four goals on six shots that were placed on target. While Ithaca dominated the entirety of the half it took the offense some time to mesh, scoring their first goal 25:09 minutes into the game.
Leo Morris was the first Bomber to find the back of the net with a rocket of a shot to the bottom right corner of the goal. Only about three minutes later
Connor Tierney sent a through ball up to
Ikey Borden leaving him one-on-one with the goalie. Borden was able to use his skill and finished it past the keeper. Ithaca's offense did not let up as
Reefe Harrison sent another through ball and found
Drew Warren who was able to score Ithaca's third goal with 13 minutes left in the half off of a free kick set piece.
With 2:31 left before the halftime break, Ithaca tallied on another goal from
Nathan Waychoff after picking up a deflected ball from Wilkes defense make It 4-0 In favor of the home team.
Ithaca continued to control the pace of the game in the second half. In the 68th minute
Jack Nelson found the bottom right net to put the Bombers up 5-0. This would be Ithaca's last goal of the contest resulting in a 5-0 victory.
Ithaca led the game with a season-high 16 shots total and nine being on goal. The Bombers also earned a total of ten corners.
Ithaca College (1-0-1) will travel to Dallas, Pa. on Thursday, September 7 to take on Misericordia University in a non-conference tilt slated for 7 p.m.
