CANTON, N.Y.– The Ithaca College women's soccer team was able to get back in the win column on Saturday as they were able to take down fellow Liberty League squad, the St. Lawrence Saints by a score of 2-0. The win improved Ithaca's record to 6-2-1 while St. Lawrence fell to 2-2-3.
The action started just minutes after the opening whistle as Ithaca was able to get a corner kick just four minutes in. Just a minute later, Ally McCabe was able to put home the goal after a beautiful feed from
Julia Cascone to put the Bombers up 1-0 within the first five minutes of gameplay.
Just two minutes later, Ithaca continued their offensive prowess as
Ava Detorie and
Ali Amari put a couple of testers on net that were saved by St. Lawrence's goalkeeper, Keely Snode. The flurry of shots would continue as
Julia Cascone and
Sarah Sinnott kept firing away, putting Keely Snode to the test once again.
After several substitutions for the Saints, Ithaca found themselves on the attack once again and in the 32nd minute,
Jayne Bogle was able to capitalize when
Ally Stanton helped set her up in front of goal putting the Bombers in front 2-0 with only a few minutes before half time. A couple more Ithaca pushes ensued, but at the half, this one remained a 2-0 lead for Ithaca.
The second half opened up with an early opportunity for the Saints as Emma Casey was able to put one on net that was handled by Ithaca goalkeeper
Grace Hickey keeping her shutout. Ithaca then responded with an offensive surge that resulted in an
Ella Shorkey shot on goal that was steered away by Keely Snode.
The rest of this game was a defensive battle as Ithaca was able to stand their ground and protect their two-goal lead for the entirety of the match, not allowing St. Lawrence to get any sustained pressure on offense.
Sarah Sinnot led the Bombers with three shot attempts while
Zara Nourie,
Julia Cascone and
Ava Detorie all had two attempts of their own.
Grace Hickey was also strong in net stopping all four St. Lawrence shots on goal.
The Bombers will look to continue their momentum in the Liberty League when they return home to Carp Wood field to take on yet another Liberty League opponent in the nationally ranked Clarkson Golden Knights for a Senior Day matchup. The game will be played on Saturday, October 7 at 3 p.m.
