ITHACA, N.Y. – Prior to the start of Saturday's Liberty League matchup with No. 24 Clarkson University, the Ithaca College women's soccer program celebrated its Senior Class (Kate Lawrence, Brenna Lorenzen, Ally Stanton, Clare Sunderland, Kaitlyn Weis and Rosie Bostian). The Bombers who fed off the home crowd energy on Carp Wood Field and used an 88th minute goal off the right foot of Rosie Bostian to knock off the nationally ranked Golden Knights.
It was a pretty even contest throughout with both teams sharing pretty much equal possession and final shot total was 11-8 in favor of Ithaca College. The Bombers had five dangerous scoring opportunities, while Clarkson forced Grace Hickey into a pair of first half saves.
Hickey made the first stop within the first minute denying a Lillian Gillett shot attempt from outside of the box. The Bombers nearly got on the board in the 18th minute when Julia Cascone was sent through with a nice ball over the top but her shot was stopped by the Golden Knight goalkeeper, Molly DiCaprio.
The teams went into the halftime break deadlocked at 0-0 and the action really picked up in the 80th minute when Clare Sunderland sprinted past a Golden Knights defender and at the byline she attempted a shot that was corralled by Molly DiCaprio. Minutes later, Clarkson earned a corner kick chance, but were unable to convert as Emily Colby's attempted skied over the crossbar.
Ithaca found its breakthrough at the 87:52 mark as with a nice spell of possession, Kaelyn Fernandez sucked in a pair of Clarkson defenders and when that happened she whipped a great pass to Rosie Bostian who finished it into middle left corner of the net. It was the second goal of the season and the 13th of Bostian's career.
With Saturday's victory, the Bombers improved to 7-2-1 and 3-1 within the Liberty League as they will remain home for their next four games. They return to action on Friday, October 13 when they host Union College for a 4 p.m. start.
