YORK, Pa. - On a hot afternoon with temperatures rising above 90 degrees, the Ithaca College women's soccer team took on York College (Pa.) in a road match on Sunday afternoon and came away with a 1-0 victory. The Bombers improved to 2-0 on the season and will host Mount St. Mary for another non-conference on Wednesday, September 4.
Grace Hickey was tested within the opening minute of play as she saved a shot from Abby Brown. She was up for the task again in the fifth minute this time making a nice save on a headed attempt from Morgan Joyce.
Ithaca notched its first shot attempt at the 6:57 mark with
Clare Sunderland forcing a Spartan save. Two more IC shot attempts ensued before
Grace Hickey made another good stop coming out of her cage to save a Keziah Boyce attempt from atop the box.
It took a beautiful cross from
Ally Stanton in the 25
th minute to break the scoreless deadlock. She played a ball from the right side of the box that was settled and fired into the back of the net by
Sarah Sinnott, who scored her second goal of the season.
The Bombers ended up outshooting the home team by a 7-5 margin with IC forcing the York goalkeeper Teresa Gonzalez into five saves during the first 45 minutes of action.
Ithaca held strong in the second half only allowing four shots from the Spartans none of which truly tested
Grace Hickey. The junior goalkeeper finished the match with five saves. Both
Sarah Sinnott and
Julia Cascone each tallied two shots on target.
The Bombers will host Mount St. Mary (N.Y.) on Carp Wood Field at 4 p.m. on Wednesday, September 6.
