ITHACA N.Y.- The Ithaca College men's soccer team took on the Hobart Statesmen at Carp Wood Field on Wednesday evening. The Bombers entered play at 3-1-2 while the Statesmen were 2-4-1. However, the Bombers offensively were stifled in their scoring chances as they were shutout for the second time this season losing 2-0 to Hobart. This loss drops Ithaca to 3-2-2 and the Statesmen to 3-4-1 on the season.
Â
It was the Statesmen who got out to an early 1-0 not even five minutes into the game off of a goal from Brian Sheehan. It was the first goal of the season for Sheehan who was on the receiving end of a corner kick that he headed past Johannes Berghahn It was then largely a defensive struggle for the next 25 minutes of the game until the Statesmen extended their lead to 2-0 with a goal from La Zai Outerbridge. Hobart dominated the first half in shots with eight to Ithaca's three.Â
Â
The second half was largely a defensive struggle as both teams failed to get anything going. Eventually, senior Ian Whitfield got a save diving right in the 67th minute of the game. Hobart led in the shot category 12 to 8.Â
Â
The most dangerous opportunity of the evening for IC was a nice from Reefe Harrison from well outside of the 18-yard box, but his attempt dipped into the waiting arms of Guillermo Castaneda Chang.
Â
The Bombers will continue their Liberty League campaign when they host the St. Lawrence Saints, who are also 3-2-2 on the season this Saturday, September 30 at 3 p.m. The Saints who were idle today will enter this contest off a 1-0 victory over RPI from this past weekend.
