Field Hockey Hands Brockport First Loss with Statement 2-0 Win

ITHACA N.Y. - The Ithaca College field hockey team took on the Brockport Golden Eagles at Higgins Stadium on Wednesday evening, September 20. Brockport entered play tonight with a perfect 6-0 record and looked to improve to 7-0, while the Bombers entered play with a 3-3 record, but the Bombers came out victorious with a 2-0 shutout win. The Bombers' victory dropped the Golden Eagles to 6-1 and IC improved to 4-3 on the season.

IC and Brockport were tied at five for penalty corners but the Bombers did much of their damage with their 14 shots compared to Brockport's eight, as IC put 11 on target to just three from the Golden Eagles.

The Bombers got off to a quick start with the first goal scored by Avery Moses 39 seconds into the game to take a 1-0 lead. The Bombers would hold this lead throughout the first quarter.

In the second quarter, it was largely a defensive struggle until 17 seconds before the half when Brenna Schoenfeld extended the lead to 2-0 off a pass from Payton Yahner. The play started on a corner attempt to Natalie Descalso whose shot was saved and corralled by Yahner, who then sent a short pass over to Schoenfeld.

Defenses continued to rank supreme in the third quarter as the Bombers carried a 2-0 lead into the fourth quarter.

The fourth quarter featured no additional scoring and some more stellar defense by the Bombers.

Alex Clough made three saves on the evening, including a diving stop late in the fourth quarter to improve to 3-2 on the season.

This Saturday, the Bombers will hit the road to take on Union College in a big Liberty League matchup at 5 p.m.
