SCHENECTADY, N.Y. – The Ithaca College field hockey team opened its 2023 Liberty League schedule on Saturday as the Bombers traveled to Union College and came away with a 4-0 victory at Frank Bailey Field. Ithaca is now 5-3 on the season, while Union falls to 3-4.
Ithaca put the game away early in the first quarter with three goals in a four-minute span to build a 3-0 lead. At the 5:46 mark,
Juliana Valli tallied her fifth goal of the season on a pass from
Catherine Papa and then
Natalie Descalso put IC ahead, 2-0, on an unassisted goal less than a minute later. Just a few seconds before the 10-minute mark of the opening period,
Avery Moses put home a feed from Descalso for the third goal of the game.
Union applied offensive pressure for the next 30 minutes with seven total shots and six penalty corners, but only two shots were on target. Ithaca was unable to add another goal to its lead over that same 30-minute stretch.
The Bombers put home their fourth goal of the contest with less than a minute left in regulation as
Meara Bury sent a short cross to Descalso to account for the 4-0 final.
Alex Clough made six saves on the night to improve to 4-2 on the season.
Ithaca returns to South Hill next Wednesday night, September 27 for a 7 p.m. non-conference matchup with Scranton.
