Men’s Soccer Battled Brockport to a 0-0 Stalemate

BROCKPORT, N.Y. - The Ithaca College men's soccer team faced off against SUNY Brockport in an away game that ended in a hard-fought 0-0 tie. This game marked the third shutout of the season for sophomore goalkeeper Johannes Berghahn, who has been a formidable presence in the net, allowing only one goal in the four games played this season.

The match was characterized by an offensive struggle, with both teams finding it difficult to create scoring opportunities. In the first half, both Ithaca and Brockport managed only one shot on goal each. The trend continued in the second half, with both teams firing two shots on goal, all of which were skillfully saved by the respective goalkeepers.

SUNY Brockport held the advantage in terms of overall shots, tallying 14 attempts compared to Ithaca's less frequent efforts. However, only three of Brockport's shots managed to challenge Johannes Berghahn's skills. Additionally, Brockport dominated in corner kicks, earning 14 corners, while Ithaca took only four.

In the final minutes of the game, SUNY Brockport intensified their offensive efforts, continuously pressuring Ithaca's defense. The pivotal moment came at the 89:56 mark when Brockport's Eric Ramirez unleashed a powerful shot, only to be denied by a crucial block from Ithaca's goalkeeper Johannes Berghahn.

With this result, Ithaca College's record for the season stands at two wins, zero losses, and a pair of ties (2-0-2).

The team will now prepare for their next challenge as they travel to face SUNY Cortland on Wednesday, September 20th, with the kickoff scheduled for 4 pm. The Bombers will look to build on their solid defensive performance and aim for another victory in the upcoming match.
