he Ithaca College men's soccer team traveled to face the No. 24 ranked SUNY Cortland Red Dragons on Wednesday, where the Bombers suffered its first defeat of the season, dropping the contest 4-0 to Cortland on the road to fall to 2-1-2.Â

The Bombers defense was tested early by the Red Dragons, but stood tall, knocking away seven shots and four corner kicks in the first 20 minutes from the Cortland offense.

Despite the early stops, Cortland found the back of the net first, as the Red Dragons slipped past the Bombers defense to net a one-on-one and take a 1-0 lead with 18:09 left to play in the first half. Cortland would add goal number two six minutes later on a shot that snuck inside the left post, giving the Red Dragons a 2-0 lead.

Ithaca missed an opportunity for a goal just before the half, as an Ikey Borden shot off a corner kick clanged off the right-hand post, as Cortland would take a 2-0 lead into the break despite the Bombers and the Red Dragons each having nine total shots in the first half.

The second half started with both defenses keeping the offenses at bay. A Bombers corner kick by Reefe Harrison 10 minutes into the half was blocked away by the Cortland defense to keep the Bombers out of the net.

Cortland expanded their lead with a goal on a shot that bounced off of the top crossbar and dropped into the net with eight minutes remaining in the contest, giving the home team a 3-0 advantage late in the contest.Â

The Ithaca offense would attempt to get on the board, but the Red Dragon defense would stymie the efforts of Ithaca's attack, which was able to put 13 shots against Cortland to the 17 shots from the home side against the Bombers.Â

The final goal of the contest was scored with two minutes left in the game, as Cortland capitalized on an Ithaca turnover before finding the back of the net, as the Red Dragons would grow the lead to four goals to none

The Bombers (2-1-2) will come back to the South Hill to host Bard in the first game of Liberty League play on Senior Day. The Bombers will be honoring its seniors Ian Whitfield, Thaib Abidi, Conor Baird and Reefe Harrison before the game. Game time is set for 2 p.m. at Carp Wood Field.Â
