ROCHESTER, N.Y. – Two Ithaca College track & field athletes were in action to open the 2023 NCAA Division III Outdoor Championships at Polisseni Track & Field Complex on the campus of St. John Fisher University on Thursday.
Logan Bruce put together a solid day to begin the heptathlon as she produced 3081 points through four events and is 31 points out of first place. The heptathlon started with the 100-meter hurdles and Bruce was the top overall finisher with a time of 14.15 seconds to earn 957 points. She then moved over to the high jump, where she finished in a tie for third at 1.61 meters for 747 points.
Bruce was first overall after two events but dropped back to third after the shot put. In that event, she fouled twice but earned a mark of 10.22 meters for 544 points and an 11th place finish. Bruce concluded the day in the 200-meter dash and posted a time of 25.60 seconds to come in fourth and receive 833 points to move back into second place in the overall standings.
Nathaniel Oczkowski narrowly missed qualification for the 400-meter hurdles final as his time of 53.03 seconds, which was a season best, came up just .28 shy of the top eight. Oczkowski ran in the first of three heats in the event and placed third. The second heat witnessed four times faster than Oczkowski to place him on the fringe, and the top two times in the final heat knocked him out of the final.
