ITHACA, N.Y. – The Ithaca College men's tennis team dropped a close match against Hobart College, 6–3, on Friday evening. The Bombers played a tight match against an 11–4 Statesman squad, coming down to the final few matches.
The day started out with big a doubles win in the No. 2 spot from
Nicolas Luis and
Tyler Del Zoppo over Harry Lyu and Troy Steiner. The duo played a close match before pulling away late, finishing strong for an 8–5 victory.
The Bombers fell in close 8–6 matches in each of the double's bouts at the No. 1 and No. 3 spots.
Siddharth Vaada and
Jimin Woo fell to Sean Pesin and Jett Wright, and
Jacob Wachs and
Ean Lantzy fell to Aidan Staunton and Nick Fischer.
The Bombers went down 4–1 after its first two singles matches. In the No. 1 spot, Luis defeated Pesin 6–1 and 6–2 in his sets to get the Bombers back in the match. Vaada in the No. 2 spot pulled out the biggest win of the night for the Bombers in a three-set thriller. Both Vaada and Lyu won a set 6–4 to send the match to a third. Vaada pulled out a 7–5 victory in the third set to claim the Bombers' third win of the day.
The Statesman clinched the victory, taking two of the last three matches to pull away late in the match. The Bombers moved to 6–7 on the season with a 1–4 record in the Liberty League. The Bombers have three matches left on the season, hosting Vassar College next Saturday at 11 a.m.
