Men's Lacrosse Suffer Overtime Loss to Skidmore

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. — The Ithaca College men's lacrosse team's comeback bid fell short in an overtime loss to Skidmore College, falling 12–11. The Bombers are now 7–4 on the season.

TIthaca College made a late push to force overtime but were unable to find the winning goal in the extra period. Ithaca got hat tricks from Charlie Niebuhr and Graham Brady, and John Sramac scored two as well with an assist. Hunter Wallace scored his first goal of the season, and Jack Pastore and Connor Brumfield also found the back of the net once. Jake Erickson was held without a goal for the first time this season, but he dished out three assists. Demetri Lowry and Wesley Hudkins led Ithaca in caused turnovers with three and two respectively, and also tied for the team lead in ground balls with five. Ryan LaForty played the full game in net and made 15 saves and posted a .556 save percentage.

The Thoroughbreds jumped out to an early lead in the game, scoring in the opening minute. Ithaca tied the game up a couple minutes later off a Niebuhr goal and took the lead with goals from Sramac and Brady. Charlie McFadden cut the lead down to one for Skidmore with six and a half minutes left, but Pastore and Wallace scored in response. The Thoroughbreds got one more before the quarter ended, and the Bombers led 5–3 after the first quarter.

Skidmore got the first goal of the period again in the first minute, this time from Will Fekete, and both teams would trade goals throughout the quarter. Brady got his second of the day with 10 minutes left, but Skidmore quickly answered with a goal from Brian Gonsalves. Five minutes later, Brumfield scored for the Bombers, and that would stand as the last goal of the first half as the Bombers took a 7–5 lead into halftime.

It was a quiet third quarter as neither team scored much, and the first goal came nine minutes into the frame. Charlie McFadden and Jack Doherty scored back-to-back goals 35 seconds apart to tie the game at 7–7, but Niebuhr scored a couple minutes later to give the Bombers the lead again, and Ithaca led 87 going into the fourth quarter.

Both teams went on scoring runs in the fourth, as Skidmore started the quarter on a 4–0 run. Fekete scored a man-up goal one minute in, and McFadden score another man-up goal two minutes later. Gonsalves scored with nine minutes left, and Tim Blue added on another man-up goal to give Skidmore a 11–8 lead with eight minutes left. However, Ithaca put together a run of their own, starting with a Niebuhr goal with 4:38 left, and a Brady goal 30 seconds later. In the final minute, Sramac was assisted by Erickson to tie the game and force overtime. The Thoroughbreds got the game winning goal with 2:56 remaining in the period from Tim Blue and won the game 12–11.

Skidmore led in shots, 39–34, and shots on goal, 27–23, and also turned the ball over less, 20–24. Ithaca led in ground balls 41–28, and faceoffs were split at 12 each.
