ITHACA, N.Y. – The Ithaca College women's tennis team defeated William Smith, 5–4 on Wednesday evening in a thrilling match at the Wheeler Tennis Courts. The match came down to
Sabrina Cheung in the No. 4 singles spot who clinched the win with an incredible three-set victory, taking the third set 7–6.
The Bombers started the day with a win in the No. 3 doubles spot from
Eliana Chelnick and
Sabrina Cheung, taking a big 8–1 win in quick fashion. The Herons evened the score with an 8–4 win in the two spot, bringing a big finish to
Taylor Crain and
Caroline Herz in the No. 1 spot. Hertz and Taylor took a slight advantage, holding the lead for an 8–6 win and a 2–1 team advantage heading into singles matches.
Kayla Shenk picked up the first singles win in the No. 5 spot for the Bombers, taking the first set 6–1 and the second set 6–4 over Julia Pida. Crain gave the Bombers a big 4–1 advantage with her win in the No. 1 spot over Haley Levine, taking the first two sets 6–3 and 6–4.
The Herons got back in the match, picking up three straight wins in the No. 2, No. 3, and No. 6 spots. In the No. 3 spot,
Zoe Davis fell in a tough, three-set match against Audrey Camacho. Hertz also fell in a three-set match in the No. 6 spot against Marin Montagne.
At 4–4, the match came down to Cheung who battled back in the match with a big 6–4 win the second set. Cheung took the third set 7–6, clinching a massive win for the Bombers.
The Bombers moved to 8–6 on the season and a 3–2 record in the Liberty League. The Bombers host Vassar College on Sunday for a 10 a.m. match.
