The first half was all RIT, as the Tigers controlled play from the opening faceoff and held a comfortable lead for the majority of the game. The Tigers won the faceoff and quickly settled into the offensive zone, scoring 54 seconds into the game. Minutes later, the Tigers scored a pair of goals separated by just 11 seconds. Pastore was assisted by Ibrahima to get the Bombers on the board with just under 10 minutes left in the first quarter, but that would be the lone goal for Ithaca in the opening frame. Their goal was answered swiftly by the Tigers, and by the halfway point of the period, it was 5–1. RIT would score two more times to end the first with a 7–1 lead.
RIT continued their constant pressure in the second, winning the faceoff and scoring again in the opening minute. The Tigers started the quarter on a 4–0 run through the first five minutes, jumping out to an 11–1 lead. Niebuhr stopped the run with a goal with 9:42, but the Tigers scored again just 26 seconds later. Another four-goal stretch extended the Tigers lead to 16–2, and even though Niebuhr would complete a hat trick before the half, the Bombers entered the break in a 17–4 hole.
The Bombers fared better in the second half but had a tall deficit to overcome. Niebuhr started the half with a goal for Ithaca, the first of five straight. Brady followed Niebuhr, with Erickson and Turner scoring after him. The five-goal run was capped off by another Brady goal, making the score 17–9 with under five minutes left in the third quarter. The Tigers stopped the run on the ensuing faceoff, winning it and scoring shortly after, and each team traded a goal to end the third quarter with the Tigers leading 19–10.
Erickson started the scoring in the fourth, but the Tigers responded with three more goals. Erickson wrapped up the fourth with two more goals for the Bombers, the only Ithaca goals in the quarter, and the final score would be 22–13.
The Bombers recorded 31 shots and 25 shots on goal, but those numbers were dwarfed by RIT's 58 shots and 40 shots on goal. The Tigers led in ground balls 42–28 and faceoffs 26–13, while also causing 14 turnovers to the Bombers nine forced turnovers.
