PITTSFORD, N.Y. – The Ithaca College baseball team outslugged St. John Fisher University at Dugan Yard on April 12 as the Bombers came away with a 15-10 victory to improve to 16-10 on the season.
After scoring just six runs in three games last weekend against RIT, the Bombers produced 19 hits and scored at least one run in seven of the nine innings on Wednesday. Eight of those hits went for extra bases.
Collin Feeney led the charge with a 4-for-5 day the plate with a double, triple, three runs scored, one RBI and two stolen bases.
Connor Pedersen drove in four runs on three hits, which included a home run as he eclipsed 100 career hits in just his 74th game.
Ryan Laubscher was 3-for-6 with three RBI, three runs and a homer, while
Colin Shashaty went 3-for-6 with three runs, a double, two stolen bases and one RBI.
Matt Curtis collected a double and home run after he entered the game as a pinch hitter and
Louis Fabbo also had a multi-hit game with two RBI, two runs and a stolen base.
Jack Colyer was awarded the win in 3.2 innings of work, while
John Griffin tossed 2.2 innings of scoreless relief. Dan Kellechan,
Erislandy Rives and
Landon White also appeared in the game.
The Bombers jumped out to a 4-0 lead after the top of the first inning as Laubscher drove in the first run on a single to left, bringing in Feeney. Fabbo then scored on a wild pitch and Shashaty followed with an RBI single to plate Laubscher. The rally ended with a Pedersen RBI single.
Riley Brawdy extended the lead to 5-0 in the second with a double that brought in Fabbo. After Fisher scored in the bottom half of the second, Pedersen drilled a solo homer in the third and Fabbo brought home Feeney with a base hit to make it a 7-1 game.
The Cardinals pulled to within a 7-4 score at the end of the fourth, but a Fabbo sacrifice fly and two-run home from Laubscher pushed the difference back to 10-4 in the top of the fifth. Fisher would not go away, however, as the Cardinals scored three more times in the bottom half of the fifth to keep it to within three runs at 10-7.
IC then put the game away with four overs over the next two innings to make it a 14-7 contest. In the sixth, Shashaty scored on an error and then Feeney doubled home
Josh Kaplan. In the seventh, Curtis homered and Pedersen drove in Shashaty with a base hit.
Ithaca's final run crossed the plate on a sac fly from Pedersen in the ninth as Laubscher came home.
The Bombers will head to Union College for a doubleheader on Sunday, April 16.
