ITHACA, N.Y. – The final LEARFIELD Directors' Cup winter standings for Division III have been announced on March 30 and Ithaca College earned 326.25 points to move up to eighth overall out of 274 schools that have received points. Ithaca now has a cumulative total of 528.75 points heading into the spring seasons.
Ithaca was 18th at the conclusion of the fall season after earning 202.5 points from women's cross country, football, women's soccer and volleyball. The eighth place position after the winter is the best for the department since 1996-97 and 2001-02, when IC was fourth heading into the spring.
This winter, IC received NCAA postseason points from six programs. Women's track & field earned the highest total of 70.5 points for their eighth place finish at NCAAs, while women's swimming & diving received 61.5 for a 14th place result. Men's track & field contributed 59.3 points, wrestling earned 52 points, women's basketball was awarded 50 points and men's swimming & diving scored 33 points towards the school total.
Heading into the spring championship seasons over the next month, Ithaca is within 100 points from moving into the top five of the LEARFIELD standings, as the University of Chicago holds that spot with 618 points. Johns Hopkins University leads all Division III with 881.5, while Williams College is in second with 813.5. MIT and Tufts are ranked third and fourth with 675.25 and 645.5, while Washington University-St. Louis is sixth with 565 and Wartburg is seventh at 551.5 points.
Within the Liberty League and New York state, Ithaca leads SUNY Geneseo by 108.25 points (420.5) and the closest Liberty League institution is Hobart and William Smith College with 226 points.
As part of the NCAA's 50th anniversary celebration of Title IX, the NCAA Division II and III women's basketball national championships will be decided at the Women's Final Four site for only the second time in the 41-year existence of NCAA women's basketball. The Division II and III women's basketball LEARFIELD Directors' Cup winter standings will be updated following the completion of the national championship games on Saturday, April 1 at the American Airlines Center in Dallas, Texas.
Division I standings will be released April 6, while updated standings for Division I, II and III will be released on April 20.
The 2022-23 Division I LEARFIELD Directors' Cup standings will be published next week and at the end of April. The spring standings will begin distribution on
Tuesday, June 13.
The LEARFIELD Directors' Cup was developed as a joint effort between the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) and
USA Today. Points are awarded based on each institution's finish in NCAA Championships.
