THACA, N.Y. – The Ithaca College men's tennis team picked up a big 8–1 win in its final nonconference match of the season, putting on a dominant display over SUNY Oneonta in Glazer Arena. The Bombers swept the Red Dragons in doubles play and took five of the six matches in singles play to cruise to its fifth victory of the year and back to a .500 record.
Max Sobel and
Carlos Hernandez teamed up at the No. 3 spot, getting the day started with a quick 8–1 victory. At the No 1 spot,
Nicolas Luis and
Tyler Del Zoppo dominated opponents Mason Spottek and Joshua Mann in an 8–2 win.
Jacob Wachs and
Ean Lantzy partnered up at No. 3, holding a tight 5–4 lead before pulling away for an 8–5 win.
Del Zoppo and Luis picked up the first two singles wins and No. 1 and No. 3, respectively, to clinch five points for the team win. Luis defeated August LePique 6–4 and 6–1 and Del Zoppo defeated William Schmid 6–2 and 6–3.
At No. 4, Jacobs Wachs was taken to a third set by Noah Khair, but was resilient in the third set with a 10–4 victory.
David Lubell took down Mann at the No. 5 spot and
Daniel Borenius defeated Yonni Glattman at the No. 6 spot.
The Bombers move to a 5–5 record on the season, heading into the bulk of its Liberty League with six matches remaining. The Bombers travel to Union College on Saturday for a 2 p.m. match.
