SCHENECTADY, N.Y. – The Ithaca College men's tennis team fell to Union College, 8–1, on Saturday evening. The Bombers lone win of the day came from
Tyler Del Zoppo in the No. 6 singles spot with close losses all around.
The Dutchmen swept the Bombers in the doubles slate to take a 3–0 advantage into the singles action. At the No. 1 spot,
Siddharth Vaada and
Jimin Woo lost 8–7 as the match went to extras against Dimitrus Binopoulos and Ben Jacobs.
Nicolas Luis and Del Zoppo lost their match at the No. 2 spot, 8–6, against Aidan O'Brien and Seth Prusko.
Luis came up just short against Jacobs at the No. 1 singles spot, falling 6–4 in each of the first two sets. Vaada also fell in a tight match, forcing a third set with a 6–3 victory in the second.
Vaada fell 11–9 in a close third set to Khai Ton.
Del Zoppo's victory came in another great match on the day. After falling 6–4 in the first set, the sophomore turned the match around with a 6–3 win in the second and took the third set 10–6 for the victory.
The Bombers move to 5–6 on the season and 0–3 in conference play. The Bombers continue its weekend road trip with a match against Bard College on Sunday beginning at 2 p.m.
