ITHACA, N.Y. — The Ithaca College women's tennis team dropped a 5–4 nailbiter to SUNY New Paltz on Saturday afternoon at Glazer Arena, falling to 5–4 on the season.
In doubles action, the duo of
Zoe Davis and
Rebecca Andrews was defeated by Justine Stanejko and Loretta Donovan in a close match of 8–6. In the second doubles match,
Taylor Crain and
Caroline Herz came out on top against Onalee Batcheller and Tatianna Barnett, dominating the match 8–1. In the third and final doubles match of the day,
Eliana Chelnick and
Sabrina Cheung lost narrowly to Isabel van der Veen and Amirah Alston by the score of 8–7.
Moving on to singles play, each team won three matches. In the first match, Crain defeated Stanejko 6–4, 1–6. In the second match, Batcheller beat Andrews 7–5, 6–1. Donovan faced off against Davis and came out victorious, winning 2–6, 7–6, 6–1. Shenk cruised against Barnett 6–1, 6–2, and Cheung also faced little resistance against Alex Chimenti, winning 6–1, 6–1. In the last match of the day, van der Veen won the tiebreaker for the Hawks, defeating Chelnick 6–3, 6–2.
The Bombers now stand at 5–4 on the season after starting out 4–1, and will look to bounce back at 2 p.m. tomorrow at home against the 8–9 SUNY Oneonta Red Dragons.
