ITHACA, N.Y. – The Ithaca College men's tennis team was defeated by the University of Rochester 5–4 in a tight match at The Wheeler Tennis Courts. The Bombers had a 2–1 advantage heading into singles matches, but the Yellow Jackets took four of the six singles matches to take the win.
Nicolas Luis and
Tyler Del Zoppo teamed up at No. 2 doubles, defeating Krish Vennam and Kavin Shukla in an 8–5 match.
Eric Dubilirer and
Jacob Wachs got the job done at the No. 3 doubles, also taking an 8–5 victory for the Bombers' second tally of the day.
The Bombers fell in four of the six singles matches with two heading into a third set. Del Zoppo defeated Kenneth Lee in a big match to get the Bombers another win. Del Zoppo won both sets by scores of 6–0 and 6–4.
Siddharth Vaada and
Carlos Hernandez each fell in a tough third set. At the No. 3 spot, Vaada forced a third set after a 6–3 victory in the second set but fell 6–2 in the third set. Hernandez won his first set 6–3 but fell 6–2 in each of the second and third sets to Kei Ogawa.
Luis picked up a late win at the No.1 spot. Luis won in a close first set, 7–6 before Vennam forced a third set. Luis took the third set 6–1 to grab a late victory, but the Yellow Jackets had secured the win having reached five points.
The Bombers return to action this weekend with a home match against SUNY Oneonta. The 4–5 Bombers take on the Red Dragons at 10 a.m.
