AMHERST, Mass. – The nationally ranked No. 11 Ithaca College women's lacrosse team suffered a 21-13 loss at Amherst College on March 16 to fall to 4-2 on the season. The eight-goal setback was the first time that IC has been beaten by more than one goal since the end of the 2021 campaign.
Amherst jumped out a 2-0 lead within three minutes of the opening draw, but the Bombers answered with two straight from
Chloe Nordyke and
Maddie Hall to knot the contest with eight minutes remaining in the first quarter.
After another Mammoths tally at the 7:05 mark, the Bombers strung together a pair to earn their first lead of the day at 4-3.
Hayley Armstrong and
Elizabeth Green scored to put IC ahead with 5:20 on the clock. Amherst then scored three consecutive goals to regain control at 6-4 with just over a minute to go, but IC had the final say in the first quarter as
Caroline Wise found the back of the net with just 36 seconds left.
In the second quarter, Amherst once again built a three-goal lead at 8-5, but two more goals from Wise and a goal from
Sydney Phillips locked the matchup at 8-8 within the opening minute of the third quarter.
The game would go back and forth for the next seven-plus minute up to an 11-11 draw, but it was all Amherst from there as the Mammoths closed out the third period with a 16-12 advantage.
Ithaca got back to within four at 17-13 on the fifth goal of the day for Wise, but Amherst scored the final four goals to close out the contest.
IC will return to action on Saturday as the Bombers head to RPI for a 12 p.m. Liberty League showdown.
