Pawcio Finishes Second and Lange Finishes Eighth to Highlight Finishes After Day 1 of the NCAA Championships

GREENSBORO, N.C. – The 2023 NCAA Division III Swimming & Diving Championships officially got underway as both the Ithaca College men's and women's programs had both swimmers and divers competing on Wednesday. Qualified swimmers competed in the 200-yard medley relay, 500-yard freestyle, 200-yard IM, 50-yard freestyle and the women's divers competed on the 3-meter boards.

The Bombers saw a pair of divers crowned First Team All-Americans as Karalyn Pawcio finished second and Rachel Lange was eighth in 3-meter diving. Pawcio was fourth after the morning preliminaries and had an outstanding finals session putting together a score of 471.70. Lange finished eighth to be a First Team All-American with a total of 405.50, while Abby Marraccino ended up a Second Team All-American with her 12th-place finish after she totaled 405.35.

The women's program saw Emily VanderSleen and Jane Pfeufer compete in the morning's 50-yard freestyle preliminaries as neither competitor was able to finish fast enough for the evening finals. VanderSleen finished 42nd with a recorded time of 23.95 and Pfeufer was 33rd touching the final wall at 23.73.

James Collishaw competed in the same event as he finished in 38th place with a preliminaries time of 20.72. Collishaw would go on to team with Matthew Johnston, Michael Paulos and Matthew Mitros as they competed in the 200-yard medley relay. The Bombers just fell short of qualifying for the consolation final as they put together a 1:30.94, which was good for 21st.

Sonia Mlakar, Abigail Ignagni, Emily VanderSleen and Jane Pfeufer teamed up in the 200-yard medley relay as they finished in 25th-place with a time of 1:46.43. The Bombers sit in 12th place as a team after the first day of competition racking up a total of 33 team points.

The second day of the NCAA Division III Swimming & Diving Championships begin at 10 a.m. on Thursday.
