Phillips Nets Six Goals to Lead No. 12 Women’s Lacrosse Past Rochester, 17-8

ITHACA, N.Y. – The nationally ranked No. 12 Ithaca College women's lacrosse team led from start to finish in its Liberty League opener in frigid conditions against the University of Rochester at Higgins Stadium on March 11, as the Bombers came away with a 17-8 victory. IC is now 4-1 on the season.

The Bombers jumped out to a 6-1 lead after the first quarter and never looked back. Lexi Kellish tallied the first goal of the game for IC as she scored on a free-position just a minute into the action. At the 10:22 mark, Maizy Veitch scored on another free-position, and then extended the lead to 3-0 with 9:23 remaining off a pass from Caroline Wise.

The final three goals of the quarter were all scored by Sydney Phillips as she scored on an advantage free-position with 7:01 to go. Phillips then scored a minute later another the fourth free-position for the Bombers in the period. She closed out the quarter with a pass from Maddie Hall with 38.8 seconds remaining.

In the second quarter, went up 10-1 with just under nine minutes to go, but Rochester closed the difference to 11-3 heading into halftime.

Veitch scored twice more, while Phillips added another in the quarter. Chole Nordyke accounted for the other two goals in the period.

In the third quarter, IC reached the 10-goal mark late in the period as Wise made it a 15-5 contest with 4:03 to go. Ahead of that, Wise started the quarter off a pass from Nordyke with 12:22 to go and then Phillips cashed in on a pass from Hayley Armstrong to make it 13-5. Phillips scored once again on an advantage opportunity as Lily Cody earned the assist.

Wise and Maddie Hall tallied goals in the fourth quarter as Cody assisted on the Hall tally.

Lexi Held made six saves in 36:41 in cage for IC. Kayla Howley played the final 23:19.

Wise also won 17 draws, while Veitch picked up three groundballs.

The Bombers head to Amherst on March 15 for a 1 p.m. matchup over Spring Break.
