ITHACA, N.Y. –The Ithaca College men's basketball team defeated Skidmore College by a score of 75–55 on Saturday evening in Ben Light Gymnasium. The Bombers held off the Thoroughbreds, pulling away late in an important Liberty League matchup where two of the top teams faced off.
Four Bombers finished in double figures as
Logan Wendell led all scorers with 16 points,
Luka Radovich scored 12 points,
Liam Spellman had 11 points and
George Sikoryak III had 10 points. Radovich earned his fourth double-double on the season adding 11 rebounds to his total.
The thoroughbreds got ahold of the lead early, with a 15–7 start in the first five minutes. Wendell scored the Bombers' first seven points, keeping them close early in the first half. Down 15–9, Triston Wennesten drained a three and Wendell earned another basket from a driving layup to bring the score within one. Threes by Radovich and Spellman and a put-back from Wennersten gave the Bombers a 22–17 lead.
Both teams went cold midway through the half with both teams suffering a nearly five-minute long scoring drought as the Bombers held onto a 22–20 lead. Spellman ended the drought with a big corner three to put the Bombers up by five with 3:09 remaining. Both teams traded threes back-and-forth in the final minutes, with Sikoyrak III hitting two himself for Bombers late in the half. Tee Thoroughbreds would not go away, hitting a three in the final seconds to bring the score to 31–29 at the half.
The Bombers came out of the half clicking offensively as
Zach Warech and Wendell each hit a three and Radovich hit a jump shot in the first three minutes. The Thoroughbreds tightened the gap with a few baskets, but the threes continued to rain down for the Bombers as Radovich and Spellman each hit another to give the Bombers a 47–34 lead. The Bombers continued to play well on both sides of the ball, holding a 56–42 lead at the 10-minute mark.
With six minutes remaining, the Thoroughbreds cut the Bombers' lead to nine with back-to-back three-pointers. The Bombers responded with an 8–0 scoring run to get its biggest margin of the game with a 17-point lead. The Bombers saw out the final few minutes of the game, pulling away for a 75–55 victory.
The Bombers hold onto first place in the Liberty League with a 10–3 record and host Rochester Institute of Technology on Tuesday for a 7:30 p.m. tipoff.
