No. 14/15 Ithaca College defeats the Union Dutchwomen 64-48 to remain undefeated in Liberty League Play

ITHACA, N.Y.- The Ithaca College women's basketball defeated the Union College Dutchwomen 64-48 on February 3 in Ben Light Gymnasium in the teams' second Liberty League match up this season.

Camryn Coffey led the Bombers offensively with 17 points with four three-pointers. Natalie Smith followed close behind with 13 points and added 3 steals on the defensive side of the ball. Hannah Polce led the team in rebounds with eight, followed by Cara Volpe with seven and Emily Dorn with six.

It was not until about two minutes into the game where Brady Lynch scored the first points of the game and put the Bombers on the scoreboard. Ithaca continued to build its lead until Union tied the game 4-4 mid way through the quarter. The Bombers stayed hot and continued their scoring streak. Both Ithaca and Union fought to take the lead, but the Bombers ultimately came out on top.  Both teams struggled to get consistent in scoring throughout the first quarter, but the Bombers managed to come out ahead with a 13-12 lead over the Dutchwomen at the end of the first quarter.

The Dutchwomen started the second quarter strong, taking a small lead quickly into the second quarter, but the Bombers battled to get back on top. Ithaca would lead for the first five minutes of play until Union took a 21-20 lead. Ithaca held their lead for the rest of the quarter, ultimately ending the first half with a 26-22 lead over Union.

Volpe scored the first points of the second half from the free throw line. From there, Ithaca continued to build. Despite Union's efforts to take the reins, the Dutchwomen did not take the lead at any point in the entire third quarter.

With less than a minute and a half to play in the third quarter, Union tied the game 37-37 and again less than a minute later 39-39. The Bombers won the quarter again and came out on top, 42-39, courtesy of a three-pointer from Coffey.

The Bombers finally found their groove offensively and scored 22 points in the final quarter. It was a collaborative effort offensively from Ithaca with multiple Bombers scoring in the final seven minutes of play to ultimately give them the win. Ithaca would force 21 turnovers from Union throughout the game. The Bombers defeated the Dutchwomen 64-48.

With this win, the Bombers remain undefeated in the Liberty League. The Bombers take Ben Light Gymnasium again on Saturday February 4 against Skidmore for Senior Day. Tip-off is scheduled for 2 p.m.
