ROCHESTER, N.Y. – The Ithaca College women's tennis team shut out the RIT Tigers in the Bombers first Liberty League competition of the season, winning 9–0. The Bombers begin the season 2–0 and have yet to drop a match in either singles or doubles play.
The Bombers began the day winning two doubles matches by the score of 8–2.
Caroline Herz and
Taylor Crain defeated the duo of Gabby Donohue and Abby Murray, and
Eliana Chelnick and
Kayla Shenk bested Anika Galkiewicz and Devon Mills by the same score.
Zoe Davis and
Rebecca Andrews also came out victorious, winning 8–6 against the Tigers team of Kirsten Auble and Jackie Drozd.
The Bombers also took care of business in their singles matches, winning four of them in just two sets. Crain took care of Auble with little resistance, winning 6–0 and 6–2. Andrews also only ceded just two points in her match against Drozd, winning each one 6–1.
Sabrina Cheung took on Mills and won 6–2 and 6–1, and Chelnick defeated Galkiewicz 6–0 in the first set and 7–6 in the second. Shenk dropped her first set to Murray 2–6, but then posted back-to-back shutouts to win in three sets. Davis also went the distance against Donohue, winning the opening set 6–4 but dropping the second one by the same score, and then winning the third set in an 11–9 thriller.
The Bombers look to keep their perfect record intact at 10 a.m. next Saturday, March 4 at Saratoga Springs, New York against Skidmore College. The Thoroughbreds are 2–1 and have a contest at Bard College before hosting the Bombers next weekend.
