ROCHESTER, N.Y. – The Ithaca College men's tennis team dropped a tight contest in its first Liberty League competition of the season to the RIT Tigers on Saturday, February 25, falling 5-3 and dropping its record to 2–1. The Bombers went 1–2 in their doubles matches and 3–3 in their singles matches.
In the Bombers first two matches of the day,
Eric Dubilirer and
Siddharth Vaada fell 6–8, and
Jacob Wachs and
Jimin Woo dropped their match by a score of 7–8. However, the Bombers bounced back in the third and final doubles match of the day with
Nicolas Luis and
Tyler Del Zoppo winning their match 8–6.
The Bombers stayed even with the Tigers in one-on-one action, with Luis, Dubilirer, and
Carlos Hernandez winning their matches. Luis took on Grahith Movva, only needing two sets to take the victory. The final set did require extra play, but Luis came out on top after winning 6–2 and 7–5. Dubilirer faced off against Brennan Bull and won the first set 6–4, and played even better in the second one, winning 6–2. Hernandez dropped his first set against Max Chang 1–6, but stormed back to tie everything up, winning the second set 6-2 and force a third set. Hernandez was able to win the match, coming out on top 7–6 in the final set. In the other three singles matches,
Siddharth Vaada lost to Christian Berko in two sets, Wachs fell to Brian Bork in two sets, and Woo lost in three sets to Joel Pho.
After falling to 2–1, the Bombers will return to action at 1 p.m. next Saturday, March 4 at Saratoga Springs, New York to take on Skidmore College. The Thoroughbreds are currently 1–0, but have a busy week before hosting the Bombers, with contests against RIT and Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
