No. 20 Women’s Track & Field Leads Liberty League Championships After Day One

ROCHESTER, N.Y. –
The nationally ranked No. 20 Ithaca College women's track & field team holds a 23.5-point lead after the opening day of the Liberty League Indoor Championships at RIT as IC totaled 106.5 points on the day. Rochester sits in second place with 82 points.

IC's distance medley relay team of Emily Johnson, Katharine Downey, Giana Haubrich and Joy Petersen won the race in a time of 12:58.37, besting RIT by just over two seconds.

The Bombers nearly swept the podium for pole vault as IC took seven of eight sports. Meghan Matheny won the event at 3.85 meters (12' 7.5") to move up to seventh in Division III. Sara Altonen was the runner-up at 3.75 meters (12' 3.5"), while Kennedey Heichel and Martha Kemp-Neilson tied for third at 3.45 meters (11' 3.75"). Jamie Rossig tied for fifth at 3.30 meters (10' 10"), while Erin Eastwood took seventh at the same height and Bree Boyle placed eighth with a mark of 3.15 meters (10' 4").

The Bombers also placed three on the podium in the long jump as Logan Bruce took top honors at 5.70 meters (18' 8.5"), which ranks fifth in the country. Sara Brown was the runner-up at 5.61 meters (18' 5") to put herself into qualifying position for national at No. 16 in Division III. Jordyn Dolan placed eighth with a leap of 5.17 meters (16' 11.5").

Ithaca put three on the podium in the shot put as Lily Seyfert won with a mark of 11.81 meters (38' 9"). Moriah Byrd finished third at 11.21 meters (36' 9.5") and Arla Davis placed sixth with a heave of 11.08 meters (36' 4.25").

Byrd was also the runner-up in the pentathlon with 3000 points. Byrd's top performance came in the long jump (5.26 meters) and shot put (10.98 meters) as she finished first in both events. She also placed second in the 60-meter hurdles at 9.56 seconds and third in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:42.90.

Cecelia LaBonte finished third in the pentathlon with 2816 points. LaBonte was second in the high jump at 1.48 meters to highlight her championship.

Paloma De Monte took fourth in the mile with a time of 5:10.24. Ava Fowler finished sixth in the 5,000-meter run in a time of 18:43.86. Luca Pecora finished eighth in the 400-meter dash at 1:02.22.

Bruce qualified for the 60-meter hurdles final with the top prelim time of 8.75 seconds, which was a school, meet and facility record. LaBonte will also race in the final tomorrow after a prelim time of 9.70 seconds Pecora qualified at 9.80 seconds.

Bruce will also run in the 60-meter dash final after qualifying second in the prelim at 7.92 seconds.
