BOSTON, Mass. – The Ithaca College women's basketball team returned to its winning ways on Saturday in its first game of the Emmanuel Tip-Off Tournament. The Bombers jumped out to a 16-2 lead against FDU-Florham as they ended up besting them by a 94-46 final.
Annabella Yorio recorded a double-double in 15 minutes of action putting up 16 points and 10 rebounds to lead the way. With the win, Ithaca improves to 2-1 on the season.
Yorio drained a couple of layups in the post as the Bombers jumped out to a 16-2 lead with the last bucket recorded by
Zoraida Icabalceta in the fast break. The Devils would respond scoring the next four, but Ithaca would close out the quarter with
Anya Watkins sinking a jumper with 13 seconds left to go up 20-7.
The Bombers would open the second quarter on another run this time reeling off the first six points of the period as it was capped off with a fast break jumper in the paint from
Hannah Polce (26-10). Ithaca continued to roll and play its strong brand of defense seeing multiple blocks in the paint which would lead to another
Zoraida Icabalceta bucket with 4:10 left in the quarter.
Camryn Coffey got hot from the field draining back-to-back 3-pointers along with a layup putting her team up 43-17. The Bombers carried a 47-18 lead into the halftime break as they shot 57.14%.
The third quarter was the closest between the teams as Ithaca only outscored FDU-Florham by two (22-20), but the Bombers still maintained a 69-38 lead at the buzzer of the third quarter. The offense for IC continued to roll as baskets were scored by Ava Dervisevic,
Graycen Dubin and
Grace McNamara putting them up 77-44 with 5:36 remaining. McNamara played well down the stretch as she finished with 10 points. Also joining the scoring party during the final minutes were
Isabella Mittelman who sunk a pair of free throws,
Elizabeth Majka and
Shana Desir would also convert on layups.
Ithaca shot a season-best 45.5% from the field and drained five 3-pointers as also finishing in double digits was
Camryn Coffey who netted 14 points as the Bombers saw 45 bench points scored.
The Bombers will wait and see who they play next as it will be the winner of St. Joseph's (L.I.) and Emmanuel next on Sunday, November 19 at the Emmanuel Tip-Off Tournament, but will play at 3 p.m.
