Men's Soccer Fall to Hamilton in its Final Non-Conference Contest of the Season

CLINTON, N.Y. – After an impressive 1-0 win over St. Lawrence last week, the Ithaca College men's soccer team was unable to keep their momentum on Tuesday, October 3 as they fell to Hamilton College with a final score of 2-0. The Bombers fall to 4-3-1 on the season while the Continentals improved their record to 4-4-2.

The action started right away in this one as Hamilton and Ithaca traded scoring chances with Hamilton's Julian Jacobs missing just over the right corner with a shot and Ithaca's Gustav Baurele putting one on net that was handled by the Continentals keeper, Kai Haesslein.

Just a couple minutes later, in the ninth minute, the Bombers made a critical mistake committing a foul inside their own 18-yard box granting Hamilton a golden opportunity with a penalty kick. Luke Peplowski for Hamilton made no mistake and ripped home the goal to give the Continentals the early 1-0 lead over the Bombers.

After scoring, Hamilton clearly had the momentum on their side as they continued to push transition with their offense clicking. Luke Ehrenfreund put a tester on the net that was stopped by Ithaca's goalkeeper, Ian Whitfield. Hamilton was also able to force four corner kicks within a couple minutes, really testing the Ithaca defense. The Bombers were able to find some momentum to close the first half however, as Brendan Lebitsch and Reefe Harrison put a couple shots on goal that had to be stopped by Kai Haesslein.

Ithaca continued their momentum and pressed into the second half as they continued to pepper Kai Hasslein with shots as Jared Krasnove and Reefe Harrison let a couple shots fly. After that push, however, the rest of the second half proved to be a defensive battle as not many scoring chances were had by either team.

The defensive front of Ithaca was broken late in the game though, when Hamilton's Luke Peplowski tucked in a goal from Luke Ehrenfreund to seal the deal for Hamilton College securing them the 2-0 victory.

Despite the loss, Ithaca had seven shots on goal and had plenty of chances but were unable to capitalize. Luke Peplowski had both goals for Hamilton and Kai Haesslein stopped all seven shots he faced. Andrew Kusek, Gustav Bauerle and Reefe Harrison all had two shot attempts for the Bombers.

The Bombers next game will also be on the road as they face the Clarkson Golden Knights this Saturday, October 7 in Potsdam, N.Y.
