TROY, N.Y. - The Ithaca College women's soccer team rounded out the regular season in thrilling fashion, tying the Engineers two goals a piece in a game that held important Liberty League implications for both teams in their final game of the regular season before the start of the conference tournament.
The Bombers offense got started early as
Ally Stanton netted the first goal of the day just six minutes into the contest with an assist from
Ava Detorie which just found its way under a diving RPI goalkeeper.
The Engineers would answer back with six minutes left in the first half on a deep kick that just bounced over the hands of Ithaca goalie
Grace Hickey to even the score at 1-1.
Both defenses held strong, as the Bombers allowed just six total shots in the first 45 minutes against RPI, while the Engineers turned away 10 Ithaca shots, including seven in the middle 10 minutes of the half to keep the game deadlocked.
RPI came out of the half red-hot, placing four consecutive shots on the Ithaca net and taking their only lead of the evening thanks to a crossing pass that found its way into the Bombers net off a deflection, giving RPI a 2-1 lead just out of the break.
Despite early second half struggles by the Ithaca offense, the Bombers would find a way past the Engineers after not registering a shot for the first 20 minutes of the half.
Zara Nourie would take two shots on the Engineers net but they were knocked away by the RPI goalie.
But the Bombers offense kept the pressure up on the Engineers.
Jayne Bogle would find the net on a deep shot with eight minutes remaining which cleared the hands of RPI's leaping goalie to tie the game at 2-2, giving Bogle her second goal of the season.
Both defenses kept the ball in the middle of the field for the remainder of the game, as neither team was able to register another shot after the Ithaca goal, as both teams held onto the ball in the final seconds to end the game at a 2-2 draw.
With the draw, Ithaca finishes their regular season at 9-2-4 after drawing in each of their last three games and will hold the third seed in the upcoming Liberty League women's soccer championship tournament.
Ithaca will host a quarterfinal matchup on Tuesday, October 31. The opponent inforamtion and game time will be posted later this weekend on the IC women's soccer schedule page.
