Men’s Soccer Routs Skidmore, 4-0

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. – The Ithaca College men's soccer team posted one of its most convincing wins of the season on Saturday as the Bombers took down Skidmore College, 4-0, at Wachenheim Field in a Liberty League contest. Ithaca is now 6-4-2 overall and 4-2 in the Liberty League.

The Bombers jumped out to an early 1-0 lead as Thaib Abidi put home a penalty shot in the seventh minute.

IC's lead extended to 2-0 in the 27th minute as Brendan Lebitsch found a wide open Landon Hellwig. The goal came after Skidmore's first shot on goal, which was saved by Johannes Berghahn, just over a minute prior.

The Thoroughbreds had a chance late in the half to cut its deficit in half with a corner attempt and header, but the shot sailed high and the Bombers maintained their 2-0 lead heading to intermission.

Skidmore came out of the break with an aggressive offensive approach and fired off four shots over the opening 18 minutes, but three were off target and another was saved by Berghahn.

By the 69th minute, IC put home another goal, this time from Nick Dignazio off a feed from Gustav Bauerle to make it 3-0. Hellwig put the finishing touches on the victory with his second goal with under 30 seconds left in regulation.

Berghahn stopped four shots in the shutout win.

Skidmore outshot the Bombers, 12-11, but IC put twice as many shots on goal (8-to-4).

Ithaca will remain on the road next week with a Saturday matchup at Vassar on October 21 at 2 p.m.
