SCHENECTADY, N.Y. – The Ithaca College men's soccer team traveled to Union College on Friday for a Liberty League matchup and wound up on the wrong end of a 2-1 decision at College Park Field. The Bombers are now 5-4-2 and 3-2 in the Liberty League heading into a contest at Skidmore tomorrow at 2 p.m.
The Bombers outshot the Garnet Chargers, 20-14, in the game and put nine shots on goal. Union controlled corner opportunities with a 14-9 edge. Union only put four shots on target, but two of those found the back of the net, which proved to be the difference maker.
It was a scoreless battle for nearly 42 minutes until Union took a 1-0 lead off a goal from Kurt Mahlke following a double assist from Christian Rufo and Lucas Montalto.
IC had numerous chances over the opening 45 minutes with nine total shots, four on goal, and five corners. The Bombers actually took the first six shots of the contest, with three being saved by Union's Paul Agne.
The Bombers would breakthrough in the 59th minute as
Brendan Lebitsch took a pass from
Reefe Harrison to knot the game up at 1-1. Union would go back ahead just seven minutes later and the Bombers were never able to find knot the game back up as three more shots were saved.
