ITHACA, N.Y. – The Ithaca College men's basketball team wound up on the wrong end of a 72-62 Liberty League decision to Hobart College inside Ben Light Gymnasium on Friday evening to drop IC's overall record to 11-6 and 7-3 in league play. Hobart improves to 11-7 overall and 7-4 in the Liberty League. The Bombers still sit at the top of the Liberty League standings tied with Vassar for first, and Hobart remains right behind them tied with RPI for second.
Hobart got off to a hot start with a 10-2 run before Ithaca began to climb back.
Logan Wendell hit his first three of the game to cut the Statesmen lead to five points. The Bombers continued to build on this momentum, taking the lead halfway through the first half, and then would trail again by 12 going into the break.
The Bombers could never regain the lead but got within five points after a layup from
Luka Radovich with just under 12 minutes remaining in the game. Ithaca continued to chip away, as
Liam Spellman and
Zach Warech hit critical 3-pointers down the stretch to prevent a Hobart run, but the Bombers could not keep up with the Statesmen as they had three players end the game in double digits.
Hobart managed to pull away in the final 10 minutes behind a strong performance from Jackson Meshanic who contributed 24 points and 12 rebounds in the victory on the road. Wendell led scoring for Ithaca with 17 points, and Warech added 10 points.
The Bombers return to Ben Light Gymnasium tomorrow at 4pm vs RPI in another Liberty League matchup that will be critical in determining the standings after this two-game weekend.
