Volleyball Win Two More; Ithaca Now Improves to 9-3

CLINTON, N.Y. – The Ithaca College volleyball team recorded a sweep in its latest victory over Hamilton College as that win came after the Bombers defeated Middlebury College 3-1 on Saturday afternoon. Both matches were played in Clinton, N.Y. as Ithaca has now rattled off six-straight wins to improve to 9-3 overall.

VS. MIDDLEBURY (W, 3-1)
  • Official statistics from the Middlebury match will be made available on Sunday.
VS. HAMILTON (25-17, 25-12, 25-13)
  • Ithaca received another strong performance from both Aleka Darko (nine) and Alexandra Montgomery (10) who combined for 19 kills. Montgomery was 10 of 17 on swings (.529). The Bombers were potent from the service line with 10 aces as Maddie Cox totaled five in the win. She also racked up 31 assists and 10 digs.
  • Hamilton established an early 6-4 lead that was extended to 9-6 before IC began its comeback within the first set. Back-to-back kills from Jennifer Pitts and Maddie Cox made it 10-9 and Ithaca continued its run building a 19-13 advantage. The final two points of the set went in favor of the Bombers with an Aleka Darko kill that was followed up by an Alexandra Montgomery effort.
  • In the beginning portions of the set, Ithaca rattled off a 15-5 lead and didn't look back. Highlights within the run included three-straight Maddie Cox aces and a Leila Chipepo kill at the net. The Bombers cruised from there as they took the set 25-12.
  • It was close early with six ties before Ithaca once again established its game and scored four-straight points to build a 12-7 advantage. That run was capped off by a smart set over the net by Cox to that caught Hamilton's defense flat footed. It was a strong end portion of the set for IC as they scored eight of the final 10 points. The Bombers completed the sweep on a kill by Jamie Koopman.

REACTION FROM HEAD COACH JOHAN DULFER
"We are playing with so much passion especially for competing at the moment, it's fun to see. I thought we served so tough today that it was hard for our opponents to get in a rhythm, and we took full advantage of it. Our blocking decisions and composure also were excellent today, making it hard for Middlebury and Hamilton's excellent hitters to score against us the way they're used to. We are very excited about starting conference play this week."

Next up, Ithaca College will now embark onto Liberty League action beginning with RIT visiting South Hill on Wednesday evening. The match against the Tigers is slated to begin at 6 p.m.
