RECAP AGAINST BROCKPORT: Ithaca returned to Butterfield Stadium for its home opener last Saturday and did not disappoint the Bombers faithful as IC posted a 24-0 shutout over Brockport. The home-opening shutout was the first for IC since 2004 against Buffalo State, a 45-0 win.
Ithaca built a 17-0 lead after a quarter of play and never looked back. After a
Nicholas Bahamonde field goal, the IC defense forced a fumble and recovered at the Brockport 34-yard line. On the next play,
A.J. Wingfield connected with
Jalen Leonard-Osbourne for a touchdown. The lead grew to 17 late in the quarter as Wingfield found
Julien Deumaga for a 2-yard score.
IC's final touchdown came on a 20-yard pass from Wingfield to
Michael Anderson in the third quarter.
Brockport outgained Ithaca, 266-243, in the contest, but the Golden Eagles were just 5-for-18 on third down and 1-for-6 on fourth down.
DESIMPLICIIS HONORED BY LIBERTY LEAGUE: Matt DeSimpliciis played a major role in Ithaca's 24-0 shutout of Brockport as he logged 12 total tackles, 1.5 tackles for loss, one sack and a fumble recovery. His fumble recovery led to a touchdown for IC on the first play of the drive. DeSimpliciis would be named Liberty League Defensive Performer of the Week on September 12.
Wingfield and
Michael Roumes found a place on the honor roll as well.
Wingfield threw for 166 yards and three touchdowns on 15-of-27 through the air. Wingfield's touchdown passes covered 34, 2 and 20 yards. He also ran for 16 yards in the game.
