Bombers Advance! Women’s Tennis Defeats St. Lawrence in Liberty League Quarterfinals

ITHACA, N.Y. - The Ithaca College women's tennis team defeated St. Lawrence University 5-3 Friday afternoon in the quarterfinals of the Liberty League tournament at Cornell University's Reis Tennis Center. The victory marks the Bombers first postseason win since the team joined the conference in 2017.

Junior Rebecca Andrews was the sole Bomber to take home wins in both doubles and singles this afternoon.

First years Taylor Crain and Lauren Rodriguez opened up the quarterfinal round of play for Ithaca, taking down the Saints' Emily Harris and Caitlyn Avery 8-3 in the first doubles slot. With the win, the rookie pair improved to 10-5 on the year as a team.

Andrews and first year Kayla Shenk followed up their teammates' victory with one of their own, dispatching St. Lawrence opponents 8-5 at third doubles.

In the sixth spot, junior Caroline Herz recorded the most dominant singles win of the afternoon for Ithaca. Herz bested St. Lawrence's Gabriella Dadoly in straight sets 6-4, 6-4.

Junior Zoe Davis played a tough three set match next at fourth singles to grab another individual victory for the Bombers. After taking the first set 6-4, Davis dropped the second to the Saints' Harris 3-6. The junior captain battled back in the third to take the match 6-4, 3-6, 6-3. Davis' individual record now stands at 13-6, tied with Crain the most singles wins of any Bomber.

Andrews secured the team win for Ithaca in the third singles slot, defeating St. Lawrence's Meredith Macey in straight sets 6-3, 7-6 (7).

The Bombers will take on No.1 seed Vassar College tomorrow at 2:15 p.m. in the semifinal round of the Liberty League tournament at the Reis Tennis Center. The winner will advance to the Championships held on Sunday, May 8, at 2 p.m. and receive an automatic bid to the NCAA tournament.
