ITHACA, N.Y. – In the first semifinals round of Saturday's Liberty League Championship women's tennis tournament, Ithaca College fell 5-1 to Vassar. The teams battled once again at the Reis Tennis Center on the campus of Cornell University.
The top-seeded Brewers will now move to 16-2 on the season and advance to Sunday's Championship match at 2 p.m. against Skidmore.
Vassar got off to a 1-0 lead after Cara Kizilbash and Elyse Duley powered their way to an 8-2 win at third doubles over
Kayla Shenk and
Caroline Herz. The next doubles finish was at No. 2 with Tatum Blalock and Macey Dowd recording an 8-0 win over
Zoe Davis and
Rebecca Andrews.
The Bombers took their lone point of the semifinals at No. 1 doubles.
Taylor Crain and
Lauren Rodriguez avenged a regular season loss to Melina Stavropoulos and Sofie Shen by besting the duo on Saturday by an 8-2 margin.
The victory was clinched for the Brewers at No. 3 singles as
Rebecca Andrews was unable to grab a point from her opponent as Sofie Shen won 6-0, 6-0.
Ithaca concludes their season with a 13-7 overall record as the 13 victories matches the most wins since the 2016-17 season where the Bombers finished at 13-8.
