POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. – The Ithaca College men's lacrosse program returned their winning ways on Saturday afternoon and used a big scoring second half and stout defense to run away with the 15-7 win. The Bombers improved to 9-2 overall and 2-1 within the Liberty League while the Brewers dropped to 6-5 and 1-3 in conference play.

How it Happened
  • It took just under seven minutes before the first goal of the game was netted by IC's Charlie Niebuhr who cut in front of the net and was assisted by John Sramac putting the Bombers up 1-0. IC won the ensuing faceoff but was unable to do anything with it. Vassar cleared it from their defensive zone and equalized it after a goal from Connor Deehan. The Brewers went up 2-0 just five seconds later when Riley Olds scored with 10:59 left in the first quarter. Jake Erickson scored to make it 2-2 and then the Bombers used the man-up opportunity to their advantage as Kyle Proctor netted a goal past the opposing keeper. Vassar once again equalized but the Bombers were able to carry a 4-3 lead into the second quarter thanks to another Jake Erickson goal, this one was assisted by Proctor with 3:38 left in the quarter.
  • The Brewers once again had an answer as James Nicholas equalized with 7:39 left before the halftime break. Ithaca would then steal all the momentum with three-straight goals to close out the period, including two from Charlie Niebuhr. IC carried the 7-4 lead into halftime.
  • Vassar netted the first goal of the third quarter capitalizing on the man-up advantage. Ithaca's John Sramac followed it up with his first of four goals netting with 12:44 remaining in the period. The Brewers netted a goal of their own, but the Bombers once again scored three straights to close a period. This time goals were netted by Sramac, Wesley Hudkins and Connor Brumfield.
  • Ryan LaForty and the Bombers defenders proved to be stout in the decisive fourth quarter only allowing one goal, while scoring four more for the comfortable margin of victory.
The Bombers will welcome No. 3 ranked RIT to South Hill for a pivotal Liberty League showdown on Wednesday, April 13. The first faceoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. under the lights at Higgins Stadium.
