Women’s Tennis Concludes Regular Season With 7-2 Conference Win Over St. Lawrence

CANTON, N.Y. - The Ithaca College women's tennis team took down the St. Lawrence University Saints 7-2 at the Newell Field House Saturday afternoon. With the victory, the Bombers improve to 12-6 on the season and 5-3 in the Liberty League.

Juniors Zoe Davis and Caroline Herz, along with first year Kayla Shenk, took home wins in both doubles and singles this afternoon.

Davis and first year Eliana Chelnick grabbed Ithaca's first win on Saturday, taking down the Saints' Elena Styliades and Meredith Macy 8-2 in the second doubles slot. Herz and Shenk equalled their teammates' score at third doubles, dispatching their opponents 8-2 as well.

Shenk recorded the next victory for the Bombers in the fifth singles spot, double bageling St. Lawrence's Gabriella Dadoly 6-0, 6-0 to improve to 11-4 overall this season. Herz notched another dominant IC win after Shenk, defeating her sixth singles opponent in straight sets 6-0, 6-0.

First year Taylor Crain secured the team victory in the top singles slot, besting the Saints' Caitlyn Avery 6-2, 6-3 for her third straight win. Crain's individual win this afternoon brings her season record to 13-4, the most victories of any Bomber.

Davis and junior Becky Andrews rounded out Ithaca's singles wins, topping their opponents in straight sets 6-2, 7-5 and 7-5, 6-4 respectively.

The Bombers 5-3 conference record this season qualified the team for the Liberty League Tournament, to be held at Cornell University's Reis Tennis Center from Friday, May 6 to Sunday, May 8. Ithaca will be the No.4 seed, slated to take on No.5 St. Lawrence the first day of play. Start time is set for 2:15 p.m. The tournament winner receives the league's automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Championship.
