Men’s Lacrosse Drop 19-11 Decision to No. 4 Union College

SCHENECTADY, N.Y. – The Ithaca College men's lacrosse team cut the deficit to four goals at 13-9 with 13:42 remaining, but No. 4 ranked Union College closed on a 6-2 scoring run to earn the 19-11 decision over the Bombers.

With the win the Dutchmen improved to 13-1 and 5-1 in the Liberty League while Ithaca dropped to 10-5 and 3-3 in conference play.

Inside the Box Score
  • No. 4 Union outscored the Bombers in each quarter except the third, which IC outscored the Dutchmen 4-2 allowing them to begin to mount their fourth quarter comeback attempt.
  • The Dutchmen outshot Ithaca by a 60-37 margin and were dominant in the faceoff circle winning 25 of the 33 faceoffs on Saturday.
  • The Bombers scoring efforts were led by Drew Turner and Charlie Niebuhr who each netted a hat trick.
  • Peter Burnes scored a game-high six goals and Peter Kip netted a hat trick in the fourth quarter.
  • Ryan LaForty and Connor Thornton each played 30 minutes in goal and combined to make 14 saves.
How it Happened
  • Union playing on their home turf took control and jumped out to a 9-1 lead early in the second quarter. The Dutchmen surged for three-straight goals before the Bombers responded with two of their own including a man-down goal that was scored by Jared Sedlock. Union scored the final two goals and had a huge possession edge in the first half thanks to winning 14-of-16 draws in the opening 30 minutes.
  • Ithaca put the most pressure on the nationally ranked Dutchmen within the third quarter outscoring them 4-2. Goals were scored by Charlie Niebuhr (2), Drew Turner and Jake Erickson.
  • The Bombers opened the fourth by scoring two early goals including a nice man-up advantage by Connor Brumfield that was assisted by Jae Stuhlman. The other was an unassisted effort by Drew Turner that made it 13-9.
  • Union scored the next six in a row to put the game out of reach as Peter Kip scored a hat trick within the stretch.
Ithaca will close out the regular season next Saturday with a Senior Day matchup against No. 14 RPI beginning at 1 p.m.
