ROCHESTER, N.Y. – Unlike the doubleheader yesterday at Tiger Stadium, runs came at a premium between the Ithaca College baseball team and RIT on Saturday, as the Bombers completed the weekend sweep with a 3-2 walk-off victory on Saturday afternoon. IC is now 20-7 overall this season and 8-3 in Liberty League action.
The Bombers trailed RIT, 2-1, heading into the bottom of the ninth inning after the Tigers broke a 1-1 tie in the eighth. IC loaded the bases without putting the ball in play as
Matt Fabian led off with a walk and
Gil Merod was hit by a pitch before RIT made a pitching change.
Nicholas Cutaia then drew a walk to load the bases, and after RIT recorded a strikeout,
Ethan McDonough ended the game with a two-run single to right field, bringing in Fabian and
Colin Shashaty, who entered as a pinch runner.
McDonough went 2-for-4 in the game and drove in all three of Ithaca's runs on the day. His other RBI came all the way back in the second inning with a base hit to center, which pushed home Fabian to give IC a 1-0 lead at that time.
Fabian went 2-for-2 at the plate with a pair of walks and two runs scored, while Shashaty had the other hit for the IC offense.
Kyle Lambert started on the mound for the Bombers and lasted 6.0 innings with six strikeouts and one unearned run allowed on five hits.
Garrett Bell picked up the victory in 3.0 innings of relief as he struck out five batters – four looking – and gave up one run on five hits.
The Bombers return to action with a midweek game at Utica on April 19.
