No. 5 Women’s Lacrosse Nearly Doubles Up FDU-Florham, 21-11

MADISON, N.J. – The nationally ranked No. 5 Ithaca College women's lacrosse team posted a dominant victory at FDU-Florham on Saturday afternoon, as the Bombers came away with a 21-11 win to improve to 2-0 in the early season.

IC never trailed in the game, and jumped out to a 3-0 lead within the opening four minutes of the first quarter, as Maizy Veitch tallied two of her game-high six goals during that stretch and assisted on the other tally from Caroline Wise.

FDU-Florham got on the board at the 10:29 mark of the first quarter, but goals from Madison Boutureira and Megan Motkowski pushed IC's lead to four at 5-1 midway through the period.

After trading goals up to a 6-3 difference just 1:45 in the second quarter, the Bombers went on an 8-0 up to the 10:49 mark of the third quarter to put the game out of reach, 14-3. Veitch scored twice during the run, while Sydney Phillips and Alexa Ritchie each found the back of the net twice. Motkowski and Wise accounted for the other two goals.

The Devils ended their scoreless drought with four straight up to 5:19 remaining in the third. IC answered with three of its own as Wise scored twice more and Veitch put home her fifth marker of the contest to reestablish the Bombers' 10-goal lead at 17-7 with under three minutes to play in the third period.

In the fourth quarter, Motkowski scored two more goals – one coming on an extra opportunity – while Boutureira notched IC's 19th goal on the game and Veitch capped off her career for on the Bombers' final goal with 9:04 to play.

After Veitch's six goals, Motkowski and Wise each had four. Ritchie finished with a hat trick and two assists, while Boutureira and Phillips each added two goals.

Lexi Held and Kayla Howley split time in cage on Saturday. Held earned the win with five saves in the first half, while Howley made three stops in the second half.

The Bombers outshot FDU, 45-26, and were successful on 14-of-16 clear attempts in the win.

IC will play its home opener next Saturday, March 12 against Scranton at 12 p.m.
