No. 4 Women’s Lacrosse Bounces Back with 18-8 Win at Clarkson

POTSDAM, N.Y. – The nationally ranked No. 4 Ithaca College women's lacrosse team avenged its first regular season loss in nearly three years from yesterday with a convincing 18-8 victory at Clarkson University on Saturday at Hantz Field. Ithaca is now 6-1 overall and 1-1 in the Liberty League.

After a back-and-forth opening eight-plus minutes that resulted in a 2-2 deadlock, the Bombers went on an 8-0 to establish a 10-2 lead with 12:21 remaining in the second quarter.

Megan Motkowksi scored the game's first goal and then Alexa Ritchie got on the board to give IC a 2-1 edge at the 9:04 mark of the first period. After the 2-2 tie, Maizy Veitch went on her own 3-0 run to put the Bombers back on top, 5-2, with exactly 3:00 on the clock in the first quarter.

Four of the next five Bomber goals were tallied by Ritchie and she scored three straight to close out the first quarter and capped off the 8-0 run. Motkowksi tallied her second goal in the middle of Ritchie's onslaught.

Madison Boutureira concluded IC's opening half with her first goal of the contest at the 3:32 mark of the second quarter to send the Bombers into intermission with an 11-4 lead.

Veitch got the Bombers going in the second half with consecutive goals in less than 40 seconds to make it a 13-4 difference.

Caroline Wise notched IC's 14th goal of the contest with 6:53 to go in the third and then Ritchie and Motkowski finished off passes from Veitch to put the Bombers up by 10 goals at 16-6 with just over two minutes left in the third.

Boutureira and Wise would register Ithaca' final two goals of the game in the fourth quarter.

Ritchie finished with six goals, but Veitch had seven points on five goals and two assists. Motkowski registered a hat trick, while Wise had two goals and won 18 draw controls with four groundballs.
