ROCHESTER, N.Y. – The nationally ranked No. 9 Ithaca College women's lacrosse team continued to dominate in its 2022 campaign after pulling off a convincing 18-7 triumph over Rochester on Wednesday evening. The Bombers push their overall record to 7-1 with a 3-1 mark in conference play while Rochester slides to 4-4 (2-3) on the season. It is also IC's tenth straight win over the Yellowjackets dating back to 2009.
Sophomore
Caroline Wise continued to catch fire this season, as the midfielder stole the show by notching a team-high six goals to go along with two assists and four ground balls in the contest.
Senior
Megan Motkowski added another high-quality outing to her ledger, firing home four goals in addition to a .500 shots-on-goal percentage. Sophomore
Maizy Veitch and freshman
Maddie Hall both provided much-needed jolts to the Bomber offense as well, rattling off three goals each to cap off the evening.
Sophomore
Lexi Held had a productive afternoon in the cage, dialing up four saves and posting a .444 save percentage.
The Bombers continued to operate at a high level offensively as a whole, scoring at least three or more goals in each quarter en route to a .743 shots-on-goal percentage.
Ithaca got on the board first at 13:06 when Hall recorded a goal off of a free position shot. Veitch followed that up by dishing her first scoring play of the contest two minutes later to give IC a 2-0 edge in the early stages of action.
Leading 5-3 at the beginning of the second quarter, the Bombers went on an offensive warpath to close out the half. Wise was the engine of IC's attack, launching three goals throughout the stanza as the Bombers ripped off a 5-0 run to surge to an 11-3 lead heading into the break.
Ithaca outshot the Yellowjackets 27-to-8 in the opening half. Held tallied three saves between the pipes in the opening 30 minutes.
That level of play remained in the third quarter. The IC defense was as composed as could be against the Rochester attack, as the unit only allowed three shots-on-goal and forced seven turnovers. Buoyed by a
Sydney Phillips goal with 1:31 left in the frame, the Bombers took a comfortable 15-5 lead into the final quarter.
Rochester began to slightly chip into the Bomber advantage behind two Gracie Giannettino goals, but IC eventually put the clamps on the Yellowjacket backline and registered the final three goals of the game to coast to its second consecutive road win.
Ithaca College will look to keep the momentum rolling as the team lines up for a home game against Union College this Saturday at Higgins Stadium. Faceoff is slated to begin at noon.
