Baseball Outduels Wisconsin-La Crosse, 16-15

WINTER HAVEN, Fla. – The Ithaca College baseball program and Wisconsin-La Crosse went blow-for-blow in an offensive onslaught on Wednesday morning at Chain of Lakes Park Stadium and IC came away with a 16-15 victory to improve to 7-2 on the season.

Ithaca fell behind, 4-0, after the top of the first inning but answered with five runs in the bottom half to take a 5-4 lead. Nicholas Cutaia belted a two-run single to get things started and then Matt Fabian followed with an RBI single. Connor Pedersen drove in another run and Fabian scored on a throwing error during the play.

The Bombers would then score eight more runs over the next four at bats to establish a 13-5 advantage heading into the sixth inning.

In the second inning, Buzz Shirley doubled in Riley Brawdy and then Gil Merod drove in Louis Fabbo and Shirley with a single. Pederson brought home run in the fourth on a base hit as Cutaia scored, and then Ethan Rothstein pushed two across as Pedersen and Merod scored on the double. An RBI fielder's choice from Cutaia plated Fabbo to make the score 13-5.

La Crosse turned it on there from there and tied the contest up at 14-14 heading to the bottom of the eighth inning.

IC was able to regroup in the bottom of the eighth and score two more runs to take a 16-14 edge as Rothstein drove in Colin Shashaty with a double and Fabbo brought home Rothstein on a fielder's choice.

The Eagles threatened to tie or take the lead in the top of the ninth as an RBI single placed runners on the corners with one out, but IC got out of the jam with a strikeout and groundout to win the game.

Cutaia was 3-for-6 with four RBI and two runs scored, while Rothstein went 2-for-5 with three RBI and two runs. Shirley and Pedersen also recorded multi-hit games.

The Bombers play Springfield College tomorrow afternoon at 1:30 p.m. at the Northeast Regional Part in Davenport, Fla.
