Ithaca Softball Posts Historic Sweep over Pfeiffer University

Misenheimer, N.C - The Ithaca softball team swept their doubleheader against the Pfeiffer University 4–1, 8–0. With the sweep, the Bombers move back to .500, sitting at 4-4. It was a historic afternoon for the Bombers as it was the first time since February of 2018 that the Falcons were run-ruled, and the first time since 2013 that they were swept in a doubleheader at home.

ITHACA 4, PFEIFFER 1

The Bombers struck first in the top of the second after going 1-2-3 in the first, junior Tava Kasper singled, which brought home junior Kailey Collins and sophomore Hudson Hassler. The Bombers took the first lead of the game, 2–0.

The Bombers continued to add to the advantage in the top of the second, first year Sela Scheinman doubled down the infield line which drove in Kasper from second, increasing the Bombers lead to 3–0.

Despite the Falcons trying to get a rally going, the Bombers grew their lead in the top of the sixth. Senior Julia Loffredo would double and then steal third, followed by a sacrifice hit from Collins that drove in Loffredo, which increased the Bombers lead to 4–0.

The Falcons finally got on the board in the bottom of the sixth, after a double from junior Kyndell Warren, followed by another double from first year Gracie Griffin, that brought Warren in from second, cutting the score to 4–1. The Falcons were unable to net anymore runs during the first game of the doubl header, which led to a 4–1 Ithaca College win.

Collins had herself a two-hit day for the Bombers to go along with an RBI. Kasper did her part as well, as she drove in two runs and scored a run herself, to go along with a double.

Junior Riley Piromalli secured her first win of the season, pitching all seven innings, striking out six and only allowing one run.

ITHACA 8, PFEIFFER 0

Just like in the first game, the Bombers struck first in the top of the second inning. First year Yalina Ellis singled at the top of the order and was brought home off a triple from Hassler, to put the Bombers on the board 1–0.

The Bombers grew their lead in the top of the third to go up 4–0. Graduate student Emma Kindblom doubled, followed by a walk from junior Allison Dell'Orto. A Julia Loffredo double scored Kindblom from second and advanced Dell'Orto to third. The Bombers added two more runs off an Ellis single and a Collins double, which plated Dell'Orto and Loffredo.

In the top of the fourth, the Bombers continued to rain runs in on the Falcons. Loffredo hit a two-run single and advanced to second off a throw, which scored Scheinman from third and Kindblom from second. Hassler then reached base on a fielder's choice followed by a single from senior Daniella Mulvey, plating both Dell'Orto and Loffredo, to make the score 8–0.

The Falcons were unable to get a rally going in the bottom of the fifth, going down 1-2-3. The Bombers would run-rule the Falcons, winning 8–0 in five innings and sweeping the doubleheader. .

Loffredo had herself a two-hit game to go along with three RBIs and one walk. Both Kindblom and Dell'Orto had two-hit games as well.

First year Anna Cornell got her third win of the year on the mound. Cornell threw eight strikeouts and only allowed two hits in five innings pitched.

The Bombers will look to keep the wins coming as they have a doubleheader against Guilford College on Thursday, March 17th.
