Bombers Bounce Back with Monday Split at William Peace University

RALEIGH, N.C. – The Ithaca College softball team split a doubleheader with William Peace University on Monday afternoon. The Pacers outlasted IC taking game one 2-1 before the Bombers bounced back winning 11-1 in the nightcap.

The Bombers have proved to be an early scoring team as they once again got on the board first capitalizing on a fielding error. Julia Loffredo ripped the shot that drove in Emma Kindblom to give IC the 1-0 lead. It proved to be a pitching duel between Katherine Murphy and Riley Piromalli who quieted the opposing lineups and totaled seven strikeouts apiece.

William Peace tied it up on a RBI single from Nadia Pittman in the bottom of the fourth inning. After advancing to third, Pittman scored what turned out to be the game-winning run when Lauren Conway singled to right field. Murphy kept the Bombers at bay in the pitching circle down the stretch to secure the win for her team.

This time it was the Pacers who scored first, notching home a run on a sacrifice bunt. The lead was short-lived with Ithaca tying it up on an RBI single off the bat of Daniella Mulvey. It was her base running along with Julia Loffredo that caused havoc and gave the Bombers the 2-1 lead.

Julia Loffredo drove in Yalina Ellis in the top of the third frame before IC exploded for five runs an inning later. Loffredo, Emma Kindblom, Sela Scheinman, and Kailey Collins each drove home a run during the big scoring frame. It was a Collins two-RBI single to left center field that gave the Bombers the 8-1 advantage.

The Bombers scored three additional insurance runs on back-to-back doubles from Emma Kindblom and Hudson Hassler who drove in two on her effort. Anna Cornell improved to 2-1 in the pitching circle holding the Pacers to two hits, while recording a career-high 13 strikeouts.

Next up, the Bombers will continue their Spring Break trip at Pfeiffer University on Tuesday for a doubleheader. Game times are slated for 2 p.m. and 4 p.m.
