Men’s Basketball Rolls at Union, 75-58

SCHENECTADY, N.Y. - The Ithaca College men's basketball team will return to Liberty League action with a statement win after beating Union College 75-58 on Friday, February 4. Ithaca is now 12-7 on the season and 8-4 in the Liberty League.

Four Bombers scored double-digits against the Dutchmen, with Skylar Sinon leading with 16. George Sikoryak III followed close behind with 13 points and Luka Radovich and Andrew Geschickter tied with 12. Liam Spellman led Ithaca in rebounds with 13 and Jack Stern had 11. Radovich also grabbed 7 rebounds for the Bombers.

Both teams took several minutes to settle into the game before scoring. The first points of the game were not scored for nearly two minutes by Union's Justin Regis after both teams had three missed shots each. The Dutchmen did not hold a lead for long, however, as Radovich scored less than 20 seconds later to tie things up 2-2.

Union gained its lead back with a three-point shot and a layup with a Radovich free throw in between to put the score at 7-3. The Bombers made a quick comeback though thanks to a three-pointer from Geschickter and Stern layup to take back the game, 8-7, with just over 15 minutes left in the first half.

The Bombers never looked back through the entire remainder of the game. Sinon increased Ithaca's lead going 3-for-3 at the line after getting fouled on a three-point attempted with 15 minutes left in the first half. Stern then scored in back-to-back possessions to put IC up 15-9.

After both teams were scoreless for another two minutes, Sinon broke the silence with a jumpshot to increase the Bombers lead to 17-9. However, Union scored twice while IC did not score again for almost five minutes until Radovich scored on a three-point shot, holding the Bombers lead at 20-13.

After scoring six uninterrupted points, Union closed its lead to just a one-point deficit, 20-19. However Sikoryak, Sinon and Geschickter put points on the board to increase the lead again to 30-22 with just two minutes remaining in the first half.

Union decreased its trail again scoring another six points before the end of the half, but a successful trip to the foul line for Sikoryak and a Sinon jumpshot kept the Bombers up 34-28 to end the first half.

Union got off to a quick start with a three-pointer just 15 seconds into the second half, but Geshickter responded with a layup within the minute, keeping Ithaca up 36-31.

Sikoryak brought his scoring momentum into the second half with six points in two minutes. Sinon added four points and Geschickter a layup to increase the Bombers lead to 49-33 with 14:44 left on the clock.

In the following two minutes, both Logan Wendell and Stern go 2/2 from the foul line to boost the Bombers up to 53-35. Ithaca had another two-minute dry spell until Triston Wennersten earned an and-one after getting fouled on a layup. Radovich continued the momentum with a layup and jump shot followed by a three-pointer from Wendell and another Wennersten to put the Bombers up 67-39 with seven minutes remaining in the game.

The next three minutes of the game consisted of a Sinon three-point shot, Sikoryak free throw point, and an Aidan Holmes layup to bring Ithaca up to 73-50. Union scored the next seven points until Alex Barron scored the Bombers last points of the game with 1:23 minutes left in the game. Ithaca won 75-58 over Union.

The Bombers travel to Skidmore College on Saturday, February 5 for another on-the-road game before returning to Ben Light Gymnasium to take on Clarkson University on February 11.
